Archbishop of Canterbury leads Palm Sunday procession in Maidstone

by Premier Journalist

The Archbishop of Canterbury led a Palm Sunday procession in Maidstone to inaugurate Holy Week.

Starting with a parish breakfast, the day was followed by members of the congregation carrying palm fronds from the grounds of St. Philip's Church before the commencement of the service.

Palm Sunday commemorates the biblical account of Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem, where he was greeted by cheering crowds waving palm branches. During the service, Most Rev Justin Welby blessed the procession and delivered a sermon.

Throughout the week leading up to Easter, Archbishop Welby is engaging in various activities in the Maidstone area of Kent, including visits to churches, businesses, and community outreach programs.

Archbishop Justin said: “Christian faith is rooted in the history of Jesus and particularly the story of Holy Week and Easter.

"This is the most important week of the Church year - because the events we remember and celebrate make us who we are."
