Rooftop tours being offered to visitors at Westminster Abbey have sold out due to exceptional demand.
The ‘Roam the roof’ tours have been scheduled to take place on selected dates in June, July and August for the first time in the Abbey’s long history, in honour of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
The Abbey website only had information about the tours up on Thursday April 22, and had sold out the next day.
The roof will be open to visitors for a 60-minute tour on six dates, at various times through the day, as part of the Abbey’s summer festival of events from June to September.
Visitors, who need to be aged 18 and over, have been warned to wear sensible shoes, need a head for heights and be able to tackle steep stairs for the tours to be led by the Abbey’s Clerk of the works and Head of visitor experience.
The £70 tours will include general admission to the Abbey and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Galleries.
There are currently no plans to offer more dates.
