Zimbabwe pastor Evan Mawarire back in court after recent release

Pastor Mawarire started the #ThisFlag movement which aims to embolden Zimbabwean citizens to speak and hold the government to account.

Harare Magistrates court released Pastor Evan Mawarire on Tuesday because police failed to bring him to court in the 48 hours since his arrest on Sunday.

He was accused of criticising the government's handling of the economic crisis in a video on social media. His release was seen as a human rights victory but he returned to court under separate, similar charges dating from July 2016 and January 2017.

He is there on two counts of attempting to overthrow President Mugabe's government and inciting violence.

He quoted Psalm 121 in court:

'I lift up my eyes to the mountains-
where does my help come from?
2My help comes from the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth'.
