The Charity Commission has opened an investigation into The Micklegate Ecclesiastical Trust, over a suspected failure to submit financial accounts.

The organisation exists to futher "the religious and other charitable work of the Church of England... including through the repair and maintenance of churches."

Concerns came to light as part of an ongoing investigation into the Parochial Church Council of the Ecclesiastical Parish of Holy Trinity With St. John, Micklegate and St. Martin Cum Gregory, York.

The Charity Commission found that a number of trustees overlapped with both the Parih Council and the Trust.

The investigation will look at the charity’s governance and management, and focus on whether it has “robust financial controls in place,” as well as whether trustees have any conflicts of interest.
