World Evangelical Alliance appoints new Secretary General

The WEA, which represents more than 600 million evangelicals globally, reached the decision via a unanimous vote by its International Council on Friday.

He will hold the position for a total of five years.

Rev Ndaba Mazabane, Chairman of the International Council and Acting Secretary-General/CEO of the WEA said they have 'confidence' in their new appointment:

"We acknowledged from the onset and throughout the search process that we needed God's wisdom and the Spirit's guidance in making this significant and strategic appointment.

"We are not only pleased, but confident that Efraim is the right person to take WEA into the future which promises to be great,

"His understanding of our global vision and his experience as a national Alliance leader will certainly help him connect with our constituency for greater global impact."

Bishop Tendero said he was "humbled" by the decision, and by the trust given to him to be the leader of Evangelicals around the world:

"This is an enormous task and I put my whole trust and confidence in the Almighty God who called me into this ministry, believing that He will provide the wisdom, favour, and grace needed in carrying out this solemn responsibility."

Nicknamed 'Bishop Ef', he will succeed Dr. Geoff Tunnicliffe, who left the post after leading the WEA for 10 years.

He has served the Philippine Council of Evangelical Churches for more than 20 years, representing around 30,000 evangelical churches there, and is also President of the Philippine Relief and Development Services.

Not only that, the Bishop is an International Facilitator for South East Asia, chair of the board of Back to the Bible Broadcast and the Executive Editor of Evangelicals Today, in the Philippines.

Bishop Tendero is also a father of four and grandfather to two.
