Wayne Rooney has shared his desire to visit the site of Jesus’ baptism. 

The Manchester United and England football legend, speaking on Stick to United, was asked by presenter Mark Goldbridge about his dream holiday destination. 

Rooney said that he wants to visit the River Jordan: “That’s where John the Baptist baptised Jesus, it would be really interesting to go.”

The former England captain has spoken about his Catholic beliefs and been pictured wearing a rosary during training sessions in his playing days. 

During the 2010 World Cup, Rooney was stopped from answering a question in a press conference about the crucifix he was wearing by the Football Association’s head of media. 

“It’s my religion,” the striker began before Mark Whittle intervened and said “we don’t do religion”, as per The Guardian. 

Rooney attended a Catholic primary school, with The Independent republishing one of his school reports that stated: “Wayne's recall of stories about the life of Jesus is quite detailed. His contributions to discussions show him to be a caring child who responds to the needs of others.”

Coleen Rooney, the footballer’s wife, also comes from a practicing Catholic family.
