The issue has been the subject of widespread debate over the last few weeks.
France has already said it's ready to welcome some of the thousands who've fled from extremists Islamic State.
Canon Andrew White is calling for the UK do more to support those who've lost everything.
He said: "Britain has rejected any Iraqis coming in at all.
"Now things are desperate, it's a life and death situation.
"We really need people to be allowed in here.
However he stopped short of criticising David Cameron's leadership during the Iraq crisis.
Some have suggested the Prime Minister and President Obama should have returned home early from their holidays to deal with the situation.
Many MPs have also called for Parliament to be recalled.
But Canon Andrew thinks much of the criticism is unfair.
He said: "He is a good leader and to lead the country can't be very easy. Let the man have a holiday!
"The fact is, him not being on holiday is not going to sort out the situation out there."
He also sounded a warning that Islamic State may spread further afield and could possibly attack the UK in the future.
He said: "They will do it like their doing in Baghdad at the moment.
"They have ISIS cell individuals who can do radical, extreme things."
