Vatican launches digital rosary to encourage young people to pray

The Pope's Worldwide Prayer Network has released the eRosary, a device consisting of ten beads to be worn around the wrist, which is activated by making the sign of the cross.

The digital bracelet is linked to a "Click to Pray" app that teaches users how to pray the rosary and "find the way to inner faith".

Users can choose from three ways of praying, including standard rosary, a contemplative rosary or a thematic rosary.

The prayer app also contains an audio guide to listen to the Gospel and an option to engage with an international prayer for peace.

A statement said it is "aimed at the peripheral frontiers of the digital world where the young people dwell," that bring together "the best of the Church's spiritual tradition and the latest advances of the technological world."

Produced by tech company GadgeTek Inc., the wearable gadget that can also be used to track your health costs $109 (£85).

GadgeTek CEO Jerri Kao, told the Vatican newspaper the smart rosary was a "bridge between technology and our need of prayer.

"We're hoping to reach other believers, so that they pray more for the good of human beings."
