Vatican denies reports Pope Francis has tumour

by Hannah Tooley

A Vatican spokesperson said the report in the National Daily was "unfounded and seriously irresponsible".

In a statement Revd Federico Lombardi said: "The pope is carrying out as always with his intense activities."

The newspapers did not same the souce, but it said the pope had travelled to the San Rossore di Barbaricina clinic near Pisa in recent months to see a specialist.

The paper's editor, Andrea Cangini, said that the paper expected the denial but will stand by its story.
