Members of the United States Presidents Cup team have spoken about how their shared Christian faith has strengthened bonds within the squad ahead of an upcoming contest at Medinah Country Club, Illinois.
Jacob Bridgeman said his relationships with teammates Russell Henley, Sam Burns and Scottie Scheffler grew out of their common faith background with the squad’s captain, Brandt Snedeker, confirming players regularly hold Bible studies together on tour, saying “It’s definitely helped bond those guys for sure.”
Henley described drawing weekly support from College Golf Fellowship, a Christian ministry for golfers, calling it his "community" while on the road.
Speaking on Fox News he said: “I don’t know that I necessarily rely on my faith to make me play better. But knowing that I have a place in heaven because of what I believe and what Jesus has done for me, not anything I’ve done, because of what he’s done, definitely gives me peace.”
Several players said their beliefs helped put results in perspective when things didn't necessarily go their way. Cameron Young noted that a healthy family makes a poor round of golf far easier to bear, while Burns said golf "teaches you a lot about life."
The Americans face an International team seeking a first Presidents Cup win since 1998.
