A warehouse and office run by Ukraine for Christ, the local ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ International, has been destroyed in a Russian strike. It happened on 28 August, with the ministry saying the site, located on a business property which was also levelled, had been in daily use for four years according to Evanglical Focus

In a statement, the group said: "It was much more than a storage facility," going on to describe it as a hub for over 1,000 volunteers from churches and charities, and the launch point for aid trips to communities near the front line.

An elderly care home next to the warehouse was also hit. Ukraine for Christ's Canadian partner, Global Aid Network, reported that 29 residents of the home died in the strike.

Reporting on the same story, news sources such as CNN put the death toll much higher, around 38.

Russia's Defence Ministry separately claimed it hit a warehouse storing "components and launch boosters for long-range drones."

Commenting on one of the deadliest strikes of the year, Ukrainian leader President Zelensky said an investigation had been opened into possible official negligence, noting that Ukrainian regulations forbid storing ammunition near residential areas.

Since 2022, the Campus Crusade warehouse had been used to assemble roughly 175,000 food boxes, including Christmas parcels and packages for military personnel, and had processed over 600 tonnes of aid donated by partners in Germany, the Netherlands and Austria.

Staff there also converted shipping containers into homes for displaced families and supported chaplains, veterans and bereaved families across Ukraine, with help from more than 300 churches and non-profits.

"Now, everything has been destroyed," the ministry said, listing food, equipment, vehicles and outreach materials among the losses. It asked Christians worldwide to pray for the bereaved, the injured and traumatised, and for those still serving vulnerable communities, adding: "We believe this is not the end."
