UK's first ever Bible-themed play centre coming soon

by Eno Adeogun

The Hidden Treasure Discovery Centre will share God's message to children via play stations and simple stories.

Ruth Lancey, project leader for the centre told Premier the centre will be unique.

During News Hour she said: "I kind of expected that people might come along and say 'oh, I know about this centre here that's doing that'.

"I mean we know about churches that have soft-plays and things like that. But the difference with our centre is that all of the kind of play equipment - it's more of a discovery centre than a soft-play so everything that you play on and climb on and press and create - it's all going to be kind of Bible themed and completely tailor-made unique stuff that doesn't exist anywhere else."

The not-for-profit team have raised £50,000 and have created a crowdsourcing campaign to help raise a further £200,000 to get the project off the ground.

Ruth and her husband Andy were inspired to create a Christian centre after taking their two children to different soft play areas and museums.

She told Premier: "I really started to think 'wouldn't it be great if we could use these creative play facilities to not just give children something to do but to really teach them about the bible, about who they are and who God created them to be'."

The Lancey's crowdsourcing page reads: "We were a couple with a dream for our local community. We're now a big team with a dream for our local community. As we've shared our story and our vision, more and more people have come on board - incredible people with a vast range of experience in business, community work, education, children's and youth work, marketing, buildings management, restauranteering and much, much more.

"We're being supported in a huge way by the local churches of different denominations and the centre will be a resource for them as well as resourced by them."

The couple have identified a 7,500 sq ft building and are hoping to open the play centre in Easter 2018.
