UK bible camp to go ahead in-person after organisers felt God's calling

by Chantalle Edmunds

A bible camp is to become one of the few Christian worship events to go ahead in-person in the UK this year.

Revive will take place in line with any relevant Covid restrictions at Ashburnham Place, East Sussex, between the 31st July and the 7th August.

Organisers say they were moved to hold the event after they felt God's calling to 'assemble my people that I may give them water to drink' from Numbers 20.

Henry George is one of the congregation leaders for Ichthus Christian Fellowship involved in organising the festival, he told Premier why the festival is going ahead:

"It's a really big decision. But we really were seeking God and listening to him. And we really felt the Lord speak to us from Numbers 20, when the children of Israel have come out of Egypt, and the Lord speaks to Moses, and says, to assemble the people, to assemble the congregation, to strike the rock, and to see that miracle of water provided and that really spoke to us. And we really felt God's glory, for God's purposes on Earth. For the advance of God's Kingdom. We wanted to gather people and give people the opportunity to gather to worship God, to glorify Him and to drink from that water to drink from the Holy Spirit."

The festival might look different compared to previous years, depending on any coronavirus restrictions, but there will be a number of speakers and plenty of opportunity for worship.

"Worship at Revive is often really bouncy and full of joy, but really deep as well and making lots of space for God to speak, for people to do business with God to allow God to heal their lives, to allow God to move deeply in ways that go beyond our understanding. But he is healing and he is ministering to us. Like I said, you can expect there's a lot of depth as well, we want to go really deep into the scriptures. So often, we try to go as deep as we can, in the times we gather together on a Sunday morning or on a Wednesday evening. But taking a whole week, we can go really deep into theological questions, we can go deep into the scriptures, we can really apply it to our lives, as well. So we're looking for absolutely everything. We want to set the bar really high, and say, Lord, everything you've got for us, we want to make room for you to do it in our lives," George added.

Organisers hope to attract Christians from far and wide. George said the Revive campus is not limited to "any one type of Christian."

"We really want to open it wide for everyone to join us and to come and be part of it. People do join from all over the country, from different places, different cities, very urban places, very rural places; the fellowship is mostly in London, in South London, and some in North London, but we have people coming a long way. One guy drove all the way down from Glasgow in 2019, which was fantastic. And sadly, we won't be joined by lots of people who come from overseas this year, which is a real shame. And we'll be looking to make video messages and calls with them, to include them, to bless them, to pray for them and encourage them.
