TV vicar through to next round of Celebrity MasterChef

by Tola Mbakwe

The Google Box celebrity and regular guest on BBC's Songs of Praise referenced her Christian faith several times on Wednesday's episode.

When asked what she thought about her cooking skills, she replied: "I'm a fairly competent home cook... don't eat out very much, certainly not on a vicar's salary."

Rev Bottley is the second vicar to appear on the show, after Rev Richard Coles appeared on the show last year.

"We're like buses, you wait for a vicar for ages and then two come along at once," Bottley said.

While making her first meal on the episode which was a chicken dish, the show's host asked her if she had faith she'd do well.

She said: "We'll there weren't loaves and fishes in that box, so you know, I don't know what a girl's supposed to do really."

She received praise from the judge on her meal saying she was a "good cook."

The vicar replied:" I'm glad I had a little help from above. I prayed to St Lawrence before I went out, and he's the patriot saint of cooking so perhaps it was St. Lawrence that saw me round."

Rev Bottley hit a bump in the road with her third meal which was lamb noisette.

Despite being criticised for making the meat too rare, she made it through the next round.

Some viewers thought she had a narrow escape, with one tweeting: "The little known 11th Commandment: Thou shalt not undercook your lamb. Saved because they didn't like Patti's dish."

Another added: "If the vicar had left the lamb in for another minute it would've been perfect."

Singer Patti Boulaye ended up getting the boot from Celebrity MasterChef last night.
