TV anchor Savannah Guthrie is asking for prayers for her mother to return home safely, with Arizona police treating her disappearance as an abduction.

Nancy Guthrie, aged 84, was last seen on Saturday evening, with her family reporting her missing after she did not attend church on Sunday.

Savannah, who presents the ‘Today’ show on NBC, thanked people for their support in an Instagram post of an image which reads “Please pray”.

“We believe in prayer. We believe in voices raised in unison, in love, in hope. We believe in goodness. We believe in humanity. Above all, we believe in Him," she wrote.

“Thank you for lifting your prayers with ours for our beloved mom, our dearest Nancy, a woman of deep conviction, a good and faithful servant. Raise your prayers with us and believe with us that she will be lifted by them in this very moment."

Savannah quoted Isaiah 26:3: “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.”

Chris Nanos, Pima County sheriff, said authorities believe Nancy was taken “possibly in the middle of the night and that includes possible kidnapping or abduction".

“This one stood out because of what was described to us at the scene and what we located just looking at the scene,” he added.
