Thieves have broken into a Nottingham foodbank for the third time in just over six weeks.

St Philips Church on Knight's Close in Top Valley has suffered several break ins and it was only between Monday and Tuesday this week when it was last broken into.

Thieves broke in smashing some of the stain glass windows and making off with only a few packets of biscuits and other packaged food.

The foodbank which is run by over 40 volunteers, were all shaken up by the incident, Nigel Webster told Premier: “The day before Christmas eve, which is probably our busiest day ever, we turned up on 23rd of December to see that the windows had been smashed in.

“People had gained entry and had stolen food, then it happened again in January, we were all like, oh no not this again and then again unfortunately on Monday night, the same thing happened again.

“Like everybody that experiences crime, we are no different, the stress of it it is difficult in itself, there are lots more important things we could be getting on with.

“It’s the general sadness really and we don’t really know why we were targeted.”

Nigel has a message for the thieves that keep breaking into the food bank: "The Foodbank like many Foodbanks get’s it’s food from the community, then we share this to the local community, so it's neighbour feeding neighbour.

“So the food that these thieves are taking isn’t ours, it’s their neighbours, some of their neighbours who are in the most desperate need, housing issues, unemployment, mental health, it’s them they are taking it from.

“If the thieves are in need they just need to come to the door, you are hurting our community by not asking for help if you need it.”

Nigel said they were currently providing about 1,000 meals a week, with food donations mostly from local people

Nigel would like people to pray for the church and it’s Foodbank that the thefts will stop and that Foodbanks one day will become history, he says that no one should be living without food.
