Sturgeon leads tributes to Scottish church minister

Rev Dr Moyna McGlynn from Govan and Linthouse Parish Church in Glasgow died on Friday and a funeral will be held in Govan Old Parish Church at 11am on Saturday.

Writing on Twitter, MSP for Glasgow Southside Miss Sturgeon, said: "So sad. Moyna was a real force for good in Govan and she will be sorely missed. My condolences to her family"

Ordained and Inducted to Glasgow's Eastwood Parish church in 1999 after completing her PhD, Moyna moved to Govan in 2008 where she ministered for eight years.

A statement on Govan and Linthouse Parish Church's website said: "For those of you who knew Moyna, you will know what huge loss this will be.

"She was a remarkable, highly intelligent, warm hearted, inspirational lady who dedicated her life to her family and her calling as a minister."

Many trainee Church of Scotland were mentored by Dr McGlynn, with one describing her passing as "devastating".

Glasgow Presbytery said Dr McGlynn "inspired many" among the communities, colleagues and congregations where she worked during her "faithful years of service".

It added: "She will be sorely missed and we remember her husband Brian, her family and her congregation in their grief."
