Stranded astronaut preaches Gospel from space

by Anna Rees Green

Butch Wilmore, one of the two astronauts who spent over nine months in space before being rescued in a historic mission, used his time on the International Space Station to preach the gospel.

Along with Sunita ‘Suni’  Williams, 59, Barry ‘Butch’ Wilmore, 62, became stranded in the International Space Station after technical issues with their return capsule. Ultimately, they spent 286 days in space, after what was supposed to be an eight day trip.

The pair even had to cast their votes for 2024’s presidential election whilst in orbit.

Prior to their return, they hosted a press conference from space.

One reporter asked what life lessons they had learnt from their “extended business trip” – to which Butch replied: “I can tell you honestly my feeling on all of this goes back to my faith. It’s bound in my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

“He is working out his plan and his purposes for his glory throughout all of humanity, and how that plays into our lives is significant and important. And however that plays out, I am content because I understand that. I understand that he’s at work in all things."

The Tennessee native said: “Some things are for the good. Some things to us look not so good. But it’s all working for his good for those that will believe. And that’s the answer.”

The pair splashed down in their Space X return capsule on the 19th March, landing in the ocean off the coast of Florida.

Butch said that he was most looking forward to reuniting with his wife and three children – while Suni said she had missed her husband and their two labradors.
