Sri Lanka the focus of Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church

by Antony Bushfield

On the 20th anniversary of the day there's a specific call to remember the situation in Sri Lanka.

The government has been closing churches and intimidating pastors there, according to charity Release International.

Release has launched a petition calling on the government in Colombo to stop the crackdown on Christianity.

The petition notes: "The circular [crackdown] is being used either to close down churches or threaten evangelical Christians to stop religious worship activities on the pretext that they are not registered."

"Please use your church service on November 20 or a day to suit you to collect as many signatures as possible from your Christian family," said Paul Robinson from Release.

"And let's pray for the petition's success so that churches in Sri Lanka can continue to be bold and shine the truth of the gospel into their local communities."
