A South African pastor has collapsed and died mid-way through delivering a preach to his Sunday congregation.

Rev Bassie Jackals died on 19th January while preaching at African Methodist Episcopal Church in Kuruman, Northern Cape.

A video of the event has circulated on social media which shows Rev Jackals pausing in the middle of his spirited message to sit down before subsequently collapsing onto the floor.

A number of church members rushed to his aid following the incident.

Jackals was then swiftly taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to local media reports.

A post-mortem later revealed that high blood pressure and diabetes had led to the death of the 42-year-old pastor.

A number of social media users posted their condolences online.

One reads: “I pray that the family and congregants recover from this. #RIP Reverend Jackals. Indeed you have fought the good fight."

Zambian pastor Rev Walter Mwambazi, took to Facebook to pay his respects to the deceased preacher and give a warning to church leaders to take time to rest.

“The death of this man of God should serve us all as a wakeup call - please rest! Take time off, have a break please please please! And find a way to share your responsibility and delegate.

“And where possible, let us set up structures and funds to support these pastors beyond their service time. I pray there is a clear system for welfare after the demise of the man of God for his family.

“May the servant of God that has passed on rest in His presence."

Rev Jackels was married to Puleng Christina Jackals and had four daughters.
