6 year old's half marathon raises over £1,000 for Christian charity

by Premier Journalist

A young boy has raised over £1,000 for those affected by coronavirus around the world by running 13 miles.

Six-year-old Freddie from Nottingham - accompanied by mum Nicole - jogged round local parks on Saturday completing a half marathon in 2 hours 53 minutes.

His decision to act raised vital funds for Christian development charity CAFOD and their coronavirus appeal which is currently scaling up its support to local aid experts.

Inspired by his teachers Freddie said: "I have been learning about being a good neighbour at school.

"I have been learning about the work CAFOD do and wanted to help them by raising some money.

"I hope my run, and the money I raised, will help them to help poorer people buy food and have a home."

The international development charity support families overseas without access to clean water and food.  Their expanding emergency programme to stop the spread of coronavirus includes support for public health announcements in local languages to get the word out on containing the disease.

After the run mum Nicole added: "Freddie has recovered. It was tough the last three miles, but he kept going! I am very proud of him and would like to say thank you to everyone for your support."
