Sir Cliff spent £70,000 dealing with online trolls following historic child abuse claims

According to the Mirror newspaper, the 76 year old used the money on solicitors and PR companies to help deal with defamatory posts. One of them is a 'Christians Against Cliff' Facebook page.

Sir Cliff is currently suing the BBC for breach of privacy after naming him as a suspect in an investigation by South Yorkshire Police. He always denied the claims were cleared June 2016.

The singer's total costs, which are now thought to be nearly £300,000 in dealing with the issue, have been varied.

It's thought that £15,000 was spent on averting a blackmail plot after a man wanted money in return for not spreading false claims about him, and over £100,000 is being claimed for dealing with media inquiries and media interviews.

In May last year, the former Shadows front man won 'substantial damages' from South Yorkshire Police after  they named the singer as an alleged child abuser  in May 2014.
