Satanic messages left at Spanish monastery

by Tola Mbakwe

According to Spanish newspaper, El Mundo, Monastery of the Holy Face in Alicante was defaced on Monday.

The priest of the church found the number 666 and an upside down cross on the glass that protects Veil of Veronica, a relic believed to have touched the face of Jesus Christ.

El Mundo reported that security cameras showed a woman hide inside the church on Saturday night and unsuccessfully attempt to break the glass that protects the veil. The pointed object she allegedly used had the number 666 engraved in it.

The newspaper also reported the woman allegedly stole two prayer books and left several more upside down crosses on the Stations of the Cross.

Police have identified the suspect.

According to the Catholic News Agency, the diocese said it now plans to increase or improve security at the church.
