Russian Orthodox clergy to provide inflatable churches to front line troops

by Heather Preston

Pop-up churches to serve Russian troops fighting in the Ukraine have been presented at the country’s annual weapons expo, Army-2023.

Developed by the Russian Orthodox church, the mobile chapels are fitted with beds, a shower and toilet and 4m by 4m inflatable prayer room, designed for priests and clergy serving military in war-zones and on training field trips.

The tent can accommodate an entire Russian army platoon (approximately 21-28 people), Father Boris Grishin told news outlet RIA Novosti.

"You can unfold it and pump it up in 10 minutes, and fold it up in 15 minutes" the priest said.

The camouflage-clad prototype features orthodox images of Jesus alongside pictures of Russian soldiers.

In 2010 the Russian Orthodox Church developed a mobile church fitted with a parachute for serving airbourne troops.

The Russian Orthodox Church has increasingly been a strong supporter of the Kremlin.

Patriarch Kirill has promoted and supported Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
