Russell Brand has announced he is releasing a Christian book and launching a bid to become Mayor of London.
The comedian and television presenter is due to stand trial over allegations of rape and sexual misconduct in October. He denies all the charges against him.
Brand said his book, How to Become a Christian in 7 Days, can speak to people who are “curious about God”. The title comes with an asterisk, for a subheading “may take 50 years of sin and serious f*ck ups to get started”.
In an email update, Brand quoted Psalm 23 and shared how his dog Bear had led him to Christ: “I only realized as we put his body in the earth that Bear was a German SHEPHERD (!!!) and he did make me lie down in green pastures, AND HE DID lead me beside still water.
“The fields and water of the Thames by our house are where Christ found me. Right in my suicidal guts. I find it hard to believe that Jesus (or sometimes anyone) could love me. But I know Bear loved me.”
It is the first book being published by Tucker Carlson Books, owned by the former Fox News host.
Brand also revealed his intention to stand for Mayor of London, to “create a counsel to advise voters and then hand Londoners back their city”. The next mayoral contest will be in 2028.
The 50-year-old pleaded not guilty to three counts of rape, three charges of sexual assault, and one allegation of indecent assault. The allegations date from 1999 to 2009.
Brand, a declared born-again Christian, held a Bible as he entered Southwark Crown Court in February.
He was baptised in the River Thames by Christian wilderness explorer Bear Grylls in 2024.
