Royal baby: Christening 'by the summer'

It has been suggested the princess will be brought into the Church of England before July, when Her Majesty is due to start her summer break.

Normally a royal baby would be baptised at the three month mark.

Prince William and Kate welcomed their daughter into the world at 8.34 on Saturday morning. She weighed 8lbs 3oz.

The name of the new princess has not yet been revealed.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's new arrival will be dressed in the same frilly, cream gown used for Prince George's Christening.

It's a replica of the lace and satin robe made for Queen Victoria's eldest daughter in 1841.

Press and public will not be invited to the service but the princess will make her second appearance for photographs.

It's expected the Archbishop of Canterbury, Most Revd Justin Welby, will led the service at St James's Palace's Chapel Royal.

The God parents are unlikely to be announced until the day of the baptism but a number of people have entered the frame.

One of Kate and William's close friends is likely to be chosen but Prince Harry and Kate's sister Pippa are also possible.

The baptismal water will come from the River Jordan, where Jesus was baptised by John the Baptist.

Kensington Palace said details of the Christening would be released in due course.
