Heartfelt tributes have been paid to a retired vicar, Rev Steve Burch, and his wife Kathy, who tragically lost their lives after being struck by an Audi while walking along Beaumaris Pier in North Wales.

Steve and Kathy, residents of Alcester in Warwickshire, were walking on the Isle of Anglesey when the fatal incident occurred on Wednesday 28th August.

North Wales Police confirmed that the driver of the grey Audi A8, an 81-year-old man, also died at the scene.

Rev Burch, who retired in 2023, devoted over 35 years of his life to serving the Church of England, most recently as the Vicar of St James Fletchamstead in Tile Hill, Coventry.

The Diocese of Coventry expressed deep sorrow at the loss, remembering Reverend Burch for his "good humour and unwavering faith."

Kathy Burch was also honoured for her dedicated work with the Church Pastoral Aid Society (CPAS).

In a statement released by North Wales Police, the Diocese of Coventry said: "It is a profound shock for the diocese, as many knew Steve well. He retired only at the end of last year after serving with us in numerous roles for over 35 years, including 19 years as the Vicar of St James Fletchamstead."

"Steve was a cherished member of our diocese, widely recognised for his good humour and steadfast faith. Many will also remember Kathy for her significant contributions to CPAS. Even in retirement, they remained active, running an Alpha course that led to baptisms and confirmations."

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Steve and Kathy's family, especially their children, David, Jonathan, and Sarah, as they come to terms with this devastating and unexpected loss."
