Fr Thomas Kennedy began ministry in Liverpool in 1943 and has now celebrated 73 years of service in the Archdiocese.
Most of those have been as parish priest for English Martyrs Church in Haydock.
He said on his birthday: "The reason I haven't retired is because I like the people I work with and they like me - at least they said they do anyway.
"I have been very happy with them and have never had any trouble.
"I always found that falling out with people was wrong. If you fell out with somebody it was easier to go and talk to them.
"I always found that you leave your cards straight on the table and if they fell out with you, it's the same."
It's possible that Fr Kennedy is the oldest serving priest in the world.
It's believed that German priest Fr Konrad Fuchs holds the record, having served until he died in 2006 aged 109.
Fr Kennedy is enjoying a long holiday and returns to ministry mid-August.
