The Holy See Press Office has confirmed that Pope Francis will travel to Armenia later in the year.
The pontiff has accepted an invitation from His Holiness, Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholics of All Armenia of the civil authorities; and of the Catholic Church in Armenia.
He is expected to visit at the end of June, according to Vatican Radio.
The pope has also accepted invitations to visit Georgia and Azerbaijan and plans to make the trips in September and October.
Since his appointment the pope has traveled extensively to places including Poland, Mexico and the Philippines.
He also acted as a diplomat in rebuilding relations between the USA and Cuba.
