Pastor whose son died in stabbing named 'Inspirational Woman of the Year'

Lorraine Jones was named the Daily Mail Inspirational Woman of the Year during a gala at the Marriott Hotel in Mayfair last night.

The 46-year-old founded 'Dwaynamics' on the Angell Town estate in Brixton - the estate where her son Dwayne, 20, was stabbed in the heart when he intervened in a fight.

She was quoted by the Daily Mail as saying: "Of course, I really would prefer that I am not here and have my son.

"But in life we face situations we can't avoid and I have to think, 'What would Dwayne want me to do because of this experience?'

"He would want me to shine through it. He would want me to use this to make a change for the better."

Lorraine - along with four finalists - was also praised by the Duchess of Cornwall during a reception held at Clarence House.

Camilla said: "We have with us today five extraordinary women. Their stories are quite incredible. Their courage, determination and self-sacrifice are truly inspirational."

Thursday night's ceremony was in aid of YoungMinds, a charity trying to promote good mental health among children and young people.

Dwaynamics offers fitness classes and mentoring to try and steer young people away from gangs and crime.

A 21-year-old was jailed in December 2014 for twelve years after being convicted of Dwayne Simpson's manslaughter.
