A Texas megachurch has gained some attention recently after more than 100 young people were infected with the Delta variant of the Covid-19 virus.

Pastor Bruce Wesley of Clear Creek Community Church offered up a prayer for mercy and protection in an online message: "Lord, we didn't want to be in the news, at least not for this, maybe for serving or some extreme generosity, but not this.

"So we ask for your mercy. We ask for your healing for all of those who became sick with this virus and for their families who've been caring for them as well. We pray for complete recovery so that people don't have any lingering effects, and we pray that there would be a stop, you would put a stop to the spread of this virus."

More than 120 of the church's youth returned from summer camp with positive Covid-19 results. The fairly extensive series of infections drew concerns from local health authorities.

In a statement released last week, Clear Creek Community Church reported that the massive rate of infections occurs in waves. The first wave began at camp, while the second is now spreading through the church after attendees returned home.

Clear Creek staff have stated that they intend to make "diligent efforts" to stay in communication with all members. The church cancelled services for the following weeks and encouraged members to view their services online for the time being.

Local health officials have asked that anyone who went on the trip get themselves tested and quarantine if they feel any symptoms.
