One in four schools breaking the law by not teaching RE, says survey

It's claimed one in four schools is breaking the law by not teaching religious education to its GCSE students, even if they don't sit an exam in it.

A survey has also found many secondaries are cutting back on specialist RE teachers, leaving pupils to be taught by staff who aren't experts in it.

Rosemary Rivett, Executive Officer of the National Association of Teachers of RE told Premier's News Hour about her concerns.

A Department for Education spokesperson said: "Our new curriculum ensures RE will remain a compulsory subject for every pupil until they leave school."
