A woman convicted of fraud has evaded capture for two years by hiding out in convents across Northern Italy.
She fled Sicily after a warrant was issued for her arrest in 2017. In her absence, a Sicilian court sentenced the 47-year-old to two years in prison.
The fraudster posed as a severely ill nun looking for help as she made her way through convents in the regions of Piedmont and Lombardy, changing her identity each time she moved.
The fugitive was finally arrested last week, after a nun from a Benedictine convent in the Varese province reported her to the police after finding a stolen ID in her possession.
She now faces fresh charges of claiming false identity.
