Nicole Scherzinger: 'Most of my friends in Hollywood are Christians'

by Rachel Huston

Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzinger has spoken about her Christian faith, revealing that many of her friends in Hollywood are fellow believers.

In an in-depth interview with Variety magazine, Scherzinger said Christianity “gets a bad rap.”

“I have a wonderful church that I go to in Hollywood. Most of my friends in Hollywood are Christians,” she added. “If you’re a true Christian, you have to lead by example and be the light.”

The 47-year-old pop star, who is now starring as Norma Desmond in the Broadway production of Sunset Boulevard, recently won an Olivier Award for the role after a successful run in London.

Scherzinger has always been open about her faith and is a practicing Catholic. Born in Honolulu to a teenage mother, she moved to Kentucky with her maternal grandparents, who instilled in her a deep Christian faith while her mother worked multiple jobs.

“My papa started out as an atheist, and then he would go on to be a priest and then a bishop, and now he’s an archbishop for the Ukrainian Orthodox Church,” she explained.

In the interview, Scherzinger described her mother’s difficult upbringing: “She had 22 pregnancies and 18 children living in a three-bedroom house with very little money. That’s the blood that I am.”

The former X Factor judge has spoken about her faith before, sometimes facing criticism for it. In 2024, she commented on a Russell Brand Instagram post the day after the election, in which Brand wore a red hat styled after President Trump’s campaign hats and posted: “Make Jesus First Again.” Scherzinger replied, “Where do I get this hat?!” and added prayer hands emojis.

She later apologized for the comment, acknowledging that Trump’s election is divisive within some of the communities she supports.

“I stand with them, as I always have throughout my life and career,” she said. “If you know me, you know that.”
