An MP has admitted to "culpably and recklessly" exposing the public to risk of Covid-19 infection.

MP Margaret Ferrier was in the court this week after she travelled on a train between Scotland and London in September 2020. Although she knew she had coronavirus symptoms, she did not self-isolate. 

Ferrier, an independent MP for Rutherglen and Hamilton West, went to a church service, Houses of Parliament, a bar and also took a taxi journey.

The Daily Record newspaper reported that Ms Ferrier attended a Mass at St Mungo’s Church in Townhead, Glasgow on Sunday 27th September 2020.

She was said to have given a gospel reading from the altar.

The Archdiocese of Glasgow said at the time of the incident: “For the good of the whole community, it is important that anyone who is required to self-isolate does so in accordance with the Government’s guidance, so anyone in that situation should not attend mass."

In Glasgow Sheriff Court on Thursday, Ferrier admitted to exposing people "to the risk of infection, illness and death".

The 61-year-old had the SNP whip removed in 2020 after the allegations emerged. She was also under a lot of pressure to resign, but she is still an MP.
