More women believe in God than men

A survey involving more than 9,000 British people born in 1970 found 54% of British men were atheists compared to just 34% of women.

The University of Essex found that 60% of women asked believed in life after death but only 35% of the men.

Nathan Blackaby from Christian Vision for Men told Premier's News Hour the research isn't surprising.

"It seems to be what we're discovering," he said.

"I think at CVM we start from a perspective that the guy hasn't changed, neither has the Bible or its message of hope in Jesus Christ but maybe the way in which we demonstrate this is something we need to look at because guys just aren't coming to faith."

He added that fears of being stereotyped could be putting men off admitting they believe in Jesus Christ and God.

He said: "If you say to people what does your Christian bloke look like, you probably get some stereotypical answers like, well, it's going to involve sandals and somewhere it's going to involve quiche.

"And we asked 50 blokes that question and they came back saying look Church is for wimps, it's for women and it's irrelevant."
