Over 300 police cadets baptized in evangelical ceremony

by Mitti Hicks

Hundreds of police cadets in Buenos Aires have professed faith in Christ during a ceremony organized by the police force’s chaplaincy.

A total of 312 cadets were baptized at the Juan Vucetich Police Academy at an event supported by the Christian Alliance of Evangelical Churches of the Argentine Republic (ACIERA).

According to Christian Daily International, the baptism of these cadets marks a rare moment of high-profile expression of evangelical faith within Argentina’s largest provincial police force.

Religious leaders and government officials attended the event alongside the men and women preparing to enter the police force.

The ceremony is reportedly the result of ongoing pastoral work carried out by the Evangelical Chaplaincy of the Buenos Aires Provincial Police, led by Diego Espindola and his team, who provide spiritual care and counseling to police cadets and officers.

Argentina is a predominantly Christian country, with Roman Catholicism being the largest denomination.

Roughly 62 percent of people identify as Roman Catholic, according to Cultural Atlas. Catholicism is deeply integrated into Argentina’s public life.

There has also been a significant rise in Protestant and evangelical Christianity, with more than 15 percent identifying as evangelical.
