The American missionary nurse who was kidnapped along with her young daughter in Haiti, has thanked supporters for their prayers.

Alix Dorsainvil and her child were abducted on 27th July from the campus of the El Roi charity in the Haitian capital Port-au-Prince, which cares for up to 400 children.

She moved to Haiti after visiting the country as a college student in the wake of the 2010 earthquake.  She is married to the founder and director of the El Roi charity, Sandro Dorsainvil (pictured with Alix).  The couple's baby girl was also kidnapped.

The mother and child spent two weeks in the hands of their captors, before being set free. United States officials were involved in negotiating for their release. 

In a statement on the El Roi website, Alix said:

"I am completely humbled by the outpouring of support and prayer for myself and my sweet baby both during and following our time in captivity. God was so very present in the fire with us and I pray that when I find the words to tell our story, that the mighty name of Jesus may be glorified and many people will come to know his love. Thank you all from the depths of my heart for your love.

"This song, See a Victory, (Elevation Music) was my battle cry during the most difficult moments. There’s a part that says, “You take what the enemy meant for evil, and you turn it for good.” And that is what he is already doing and will continue to do."
