The district chairman for Cornwall and the Isle of Scilly has been suspended by the Methodist church following potential allegations into his conduct.

Reverend Steven Wild has been asked to take a leave of absence whilst the Church launches a safeguarding investigation.

The Church has given no indication as to the nature of the inquiry.

A statement insists that Rev Wild's suspension has been done 'in accordance with Methodist Church process, as a neutral act and without prejudice,' and will last for the duration of the investigation.

The Cornwall Methodists' website states under its safeguarding policy that "Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly Methodist District is committed to safeguarding as an integral part of its life and ministry.

"Safeguarding is about the action the Church takes to promote a safer culture. This means we will; promote the welfare of children, young people and adults; work to prevent abuse from occurring and seek to protect and respond well to those that have been abused."

Premier has reached out to Rev Stephen Wild for comment.
