Dr Eaton, who grew up in inner-city London but for many years lived in Nairobi, Kenya, died in Johannesburg, South Africa. He was attending a conference when he had a heart attack.
He was cared for by doctors and nurses, and visited by family and close friends before he died on 9th June 2017, Westminster Chapel states on its website.
RT Kendall, who pastored Westminster Chapel for 25 years paid tribute to his "friend" in Premier Christianity said the pair had preached together the week he died in the Cornerstone Church in Johannesburg.
He said: "He was the most learned theologian I have met. His knowledge was incredibly vast - exceeding all I have ever come across. He was a walking encyclopedia, at home with Greek or Hebrew; he preached in Swahili.
"I was a mentor to Michael in a small way, but he became a mentor to me in a big way."
"But my memory of him is this: he was my great encourager. When I felt alone and out there in no man's land, he would come along side to say 'R T you got that right'. Not that we agreed on everything. But almost everything."
Dr Eaton - who is survived by his wife Jenny and three adult children - pastored at Lusaka Baptist Church and Nairobi Baptist Church, as well as pioneering a ministry in Johannesburg. Since 1986 he was one of the leaders of the Chrisco Fellowship of Churches.
RT Kendall said he had hoped to work in the future with Dr Eaton and explained: "I always wanted us to do our own translation of the Bible. I mentioned it to him again only five days before he died. I doubt it would have happened anyway, but it was a nice thought!
"Good-bye old friend. I will see you in Heaven. We will find out then if the Lord really approved of what we taught!"
