'Math not on our side': Trump adviser says they 'need an act of God' to win US election

As the US election goes down to the wire, a Trump adviser has been quoted as saying their campaign needs an "act of God" if they are to be victorious.

"Math is not on our side," the anonymous adviser told CNN of the President's chances of gaining a second term.

Democratic challenger Joe Biden currently holds a marginal lead in Georgia, which, if he keeps, will push him up to the 270 electoral votes required to become president.

With it becoming clear that Trump is unlikely to overtake Biden in a number of key swing states at such a late stage in the vote count, the adviser simply added: "It's not good."

"We need an act of God to alter the course," he said.

As the election tipped towards Biden, the Trump campaign started filing several lawsuits alleging fraud at the polls and questioning the legality of counting mail-in ballots that have been received late.

"I easily WIN the Presidency of the United States with LEGAL VOTES CAST," Trump tweeted. "The OBSERVERS were not allowed, in any way, shape, or form, to do their job and therefore, votes accepted during this period must be determined to be ILLEGAL VOTES. U.S. Supreme Court should decide!"

The president's sons, too, have joined the uproar, with Donald Trump Jr tweeting earlier that there is "infinitely more evidence of voter fraud than there ever was of “Russia Collusion”".

As of yet, the allegations of corruption at the polls are largely unsubstantiated.

The Trump campaign has filed a Supreme Court case regarding time limits on the counting of mail-in ballots in the critically important state of Pennsylvania. Should the Supreme Court choose to take up the case — and indeed if they rule in Trump's favour — there is an outside possibility it could swing the election.

In light of the pending litigation, various ardent Trump supporters remain convinced that he is going to win.

"There are so many witnesses to voter fraud it's now clear the Dems planned this. But who did that planning? When Trump is finally reelected-- & he will be --he must see these traitors punished to the fullest extent of the law," tweeted Christian author Eric Metaxas. "Anything less is itself treasonous. God help America."

"GOD IS IN CONTROL," tweeted Trump's press secretary, Kayla McEnany.
