Manchester City winger Jeremy Doku shared a video of his recent baptism on Instagram.
Using Romans 6:4 as the post’s caption, the 23-year-old can be seen wearing a T-shirt that reads “Jesus saved my life” while standing in a pool alongside Pastor Tim Timberlake.
The video features a voice-over from Pastor Tim of Celebration Church, who reflects on the words he shared with the footballer during the ceremony.
“I’m asking him to process some of the things that he knows Jesus saved him from. I want him to recall and I want him to go back down memory lane and think about the valley moments, and even some of the mountaintop moments. Without God, there are few things that are possible, but with God, scripture teaches us all things are possible for those who believe.
“I’m walking him through that process along with my wife and getting them to remember, to recall, reflect... Close your eyes. I want you to envision some of the things God has brought you through and delivered you from.”
Doku was baptized earlier this year following a victory over Manchester United. In a post-match interview, the footballer revealed he was heading off to be baptized.
“For me, today was already a victory day,” he said.
“Why? Because I knew that after the game I'm going to be baptized.
“As a Christian, when you get baptized, your old nature, your old sinful nature dies, and you start living with God. You resurrect with God, with Jesus Christ.
“You can do that as a kid, but normally it's meant for when you're older and you really realize what you're doing.”
Doku has long been open about his Christian faith and frequently points to the sky in celebration. On Monday, the winger shared a photo of himself gesturing upwards alongside the verse 2 Corinthians 4:7.
