Man injured in hit-and-run on way to church

by Heather Preston

A Harrogate worshipper has been hospitalised after being hit by a car as he was walking to church.

Richard Selby was en route to St Andrew’s Church, Starbeck when a Mini Cooper drove into him on 26th January.

The driver then fled the scene, abandoning the unregistered vehicle.

Selby was taken to Leeds General Infirmary and diagnosed with serious injuries, including a broken arm and leg.

Rev Phil Carman, vicar of St Andrew’s visited Richard in hospital this week.

He said: “Richard has been part of the church family at St Andrew's, Starbeck for many years.

“Lots of the church family have been concerned for Richard following the incident and praying for him.”

Richard, who remains in recovery says he is “thankful” for all of the “prayer, love and support” he has received “at this difficult time".

North Yorkshire Police have asked for anyone with information on the collision to come forward.
