A church in Camberwell has continued to sell a product it claims can cure people of coronavirus. Despite being under investigation by the Charity Commission, The Kingdom Church is marketing the phony product, which is now called "divine cleansing oil" as opposed to a "protection kit."
The Kingdom's Bishop Climate Wiseman insists that his £91-a-bottle potion has protected his flock from the virus. After Trading Standards and the Charity Commission announced they were investigating the group, a BBC London reporter posed as a customer to see if the church was still selling the substance. When they called up the church, a staff member was happy to sell them the product and advised that the oil should be inhaled via a towel or through steam inhalation.
"We are helping the nation," the church employee urged. "We are convinced this cures coronavirus. We have sold nearly 2,000 of these."
The Charity Commission has said it continues to "examine serious concerns about Kingdom Church GB" and has been investigating the group's involvement in the sale of "false Covid-19 protection devices."
Though the police are not involved, former Met Police inspector Peter Kirham said: "This is dangerous."
He added: "I can't believe that people are so callous and reckless with personal and public safety - to put this product on the market, with the claims that go with it."
