The father of actor and TV host, James Corden, has appeared on his son's chat show to deliver some spiritual guidance. Malcolm Corden, who is a committed Christian, spoke into the current controversy surrounding Donald Trump after the US President posed, rather awkwardly, with a Bible while standing outside St. John's church across from the White House.
Corden made a video call to his dad, a former Christian book salesman, to get his take on the president's Bible-holding technique and to see what he made of the Commander-in-Chief's decision to forcibly sweep protesters away from the area so that he could take some pictures with the scriptures.
"He looked like a fish with a bicycle," Malcolm joked, before offering a witty tutorial on Bible-holding methods, including the "underarm" and the "pizza box" - holding out the Bible with one hand as if delivering a pizza. "This is the pizza box," he said, demonstrating the hold. "James, you know all about pizzas. But this comes with a side of salvation."
After showcasing a few different poses, Malcolm took the opportunity to recite a powerful passage of scripture for the millions of viewers tuning in.
"I thought as I've got the Bible open...I thought I'd give a passage from Psalm 37, which is one of my favourite Psalms," he explained, before reading:
"Trust in the Lord and do good;
dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.
4 Take delight in the Lord,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.
5 Commit your way to the Lord;
trust in him and he will do this:
6 He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn,
your vindication like the noonday sun.
7 Be still before the Lord
and wait patiently for him;
do not fret when people succeed in their ways,
when they carry out their wicked schemes."
"Thank you so much for sharing that tonight, Dad," James responded. "We'll try not to fret. We love you so much. I miss you. We'll talk to you very soon."
"Alright, mate. God bless. Love you loads," Malcolm replied.
