Eurovision 2022 contestant up Sam Ryder has shared how he felt at the singing competition.

Ryder came second place with his song 'Space man'. It was the first time in 20 years the UK finished in the top three.

The 32-year-old singer and Tik-Tok star likened the atmosphere at the event in Turin, Italy to being at church.

"I can't explain it, and I can't even begin to do it justice, the feeling that you have when you're there. But going on that stage, it just felt like, just trust in everything," he told BBC Radio 2 on Monday.

He added: "Trust in the years that you've been singing and enjoying singing and music and take it all in."
Ryder continued: "We were sat there in the green room and absolutely engulfed in the energy of that arena, it was like being in a church because there was so much joy. I'm sitting there with my friends who are also my team and that's just so lucky. I've just been swept up in the joy that is Eurovision, I'm just so excited."

More than eight million people in the UK tuned in to watch Eurovision on Saturday.

Ukraine won the contest in a huge show of support from the rest of the continent following Russia's invasion of the country.

Kalush Orchestra stormed up the leader board after performing their folk-rap song 'Stefania'.  It didn't come top with the competition's juries, but it grabbed the prize once the public votes were added to its tally.
