Interfaith prayers play part in Queen’s service of reflection at Llandaff Cathedral

by Tola Mbakwe

Muslim and Jewish leaders joined the host of church leaders giving prayers at a service of prayer and reflection for the Queen in Wales.

The service took place at Llandaff Cathedral on Friday, with the King and the Queen Consort in attendance. It was the King's first visit to Wales as monarch.

The order of service showed Mr John Minkes, South Wales Jewish Representative Council, Mrs Kate McColgan, Chair Interfaith Council for Wales and Dr Abdul-Azim Ahmed, Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Wales were included in the prayer section of the event.

All the prayers, four to five lines long, were written in the order of service.

The rest of the service, however, was Christian, with the Archbishop of Wales giving the address. The service was also full of many Bible readings, Christian hymns and prayers.

After the service, the King attended an event at the Senedd in Cardiff Bay. He then met members of the public in the grounds of Cardiff Castle.
