Improvements needed in elderly care, says Christian charity

by Hannah Tooley

The NHS Confederation has been using evidence and patient's stories to find best practices and it will publish its findings at the end of the year.

It is a joint initiative between the Confederation's three forums, the Community Health Services Forum, the Hospital's Forum and the Urgent and Emergency Care Forum and the discussion comes after hospitals and urgent care services said they are under pressure and new approaches are needed.

The investigation aims to find patient-centred and practical solutions to the challenges of caring for the elderly.

Robin Rolls is from Christian charity Outlook Trust.

He told Premier: "I think what we've seen in recent months, perhaps years, in the news is that the demography of the country is changing and so they're going to be a lot more older people making up society in the next five, ten, twenty years.

"So we need to get ahead of the curve really, in terms of not just what we offer all the people in terms of care and compassion but of course the churches need to respond and if the churches take the lead that's good."
