'I'm a child of the God of the impossible': Neymar finds comfort in his faith following World Cup injury

by Kelly Valencia

Brazilian football start Neymar has taken to social media to share a message of hope with his more than 185 million followers.

It's after the 30-year-old suffered an ankle sprain during his team match against Serbia. His injury will prevent him from playing against Switzerland and Senegal.

In an Instagram post, he said: "The pride and love I feel for wearing this shirt has no explanation. If God gave me the opportunity to choose a country to be born in, it would be BRAZIL.

"Nothing in my life was given or easy, I always had to chase my dreams and my goals. Never wishing evil on anyone but helping those in need. Today has become one of the hardest moments in my career... and again, in a World Cup.

"I have an injury, yes, it's boring, it's going to hurt but I'm sure I'll have the chance to come back because I will do my best to help my country, my teammates and myself.

"Long time to wait for the Enemy to knock me down like this? NEVER ! I am a CHILD OF THE GOD OF THE IMPOSSIBLE and my FAITH is endless."

The Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) striker is understood to be a committed Christian and has often been vocal about his faith. One of his most recent Instagram posts show a picture of him with verse Psalm 23:6 as a caption.

Neymar grew up going to Peniel Baptist church in his native Sao Paulo with its lead pastor Newton Lobato revealing the footballer allegedly tithes around €18,000 (£15,500) every year.
