by Lydia Davies

A 51-year-old man has been arrested following an incident in which a vicar was allegedly threatened with a knife after interrupting a suspected attempt to break into a post box in Smethwick.

According to Birmingham Live, the incident, which occurred in December of last year, involved the vicar confronting the suspect as he was reportedly trying to tamper with the post box. The suspect then threatened the vicar with a knife.

The vicar was not harmed, and nothing was stolen during the altercation.

The suspect, who is from Edgbaston, was arrested by Safer Travel Police officers on Thursday 1st August, after he was observed acting suspiciously on the West Midlands Metro.

The man remains in police custody for further questioning.

The arrest was highlighted in a post on social media platform X, where Safer Travel Police stated: "A 51-year-old man from Edgbaston has been arrested for attempted robbery committed in December of last year in Smethwick.
